Long charging time is the main problem in today’s EV sector. It takes 7 to 8 hours normally to fully charge an electric vehicle. A fast charger takes about 3 to 4 hours. But this time is very high for practical use. ABB the leading electrical technology company has invented a new technology to charge EVs. This is flash charging technology. It can charge an electric bus within 20 seconds.

ABB offers a full range of flash-charging as well as terminus and depot feeding stations:

  • Flash-charging stations at selected bus stops, provide a short high-power boost charge while passengers are getting on and off the bus
  • Terminus feeding stations deliver longer charges during the waiting times at the bus terminuses to fully top up the batteries
  • Depot feeding stations deliver a longer, lower-power charge to compensate the energy required between the operating line and depot location.

The new system can save as much as 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide on a line covering 600,000 kilometers per year.

The Flash charging Station uses 600 KW charger at 600 volt DC.

Slow charging uses 45 KW charger 500 volts DC.

Slow charging takes 30 minutes to fully charge the electric bus.
